When Susan Blanchard learned her home was on fire, she thought of the flag from the funeral service of her son, Ryley Gallinger-Long, 19, that was inside the burning house. Ryley Gallinger-Long, of Cornelius, died in Afghanistan in August, while conducting a dismounted patrol in the Helmand province.
